Kisan credit card yojana (Scheme) 2025

The Government of India introduced the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme. It was introduced so farmers have access to timely and adequate credit for their agricultural activities. The government provides a 2% interest subvention and a 3% Prompt Repayment Incentive. It enables farmers to avail loans at a highly subsidized interest rate of 4% per annum.

The aim of the scheme is to protect farmers from the high interest rates charged by money lenders in the unorganized sector, offering loans whenever needed. Timely repayments of the loan result in a lower rate as the interest rate is flexible.

The initial aim was to meet agricultural credit needs; the scheme was expanded in 2004 to include investment credit for allied and non-farm activities. Later in 2012, the scheme was revisited by a working group led by Shri T. M. Bhasin, Chairman of Indian Bank, to simplify its implementation and introduce Electronic Kisan Credit Cards. The KCC scheme provides guidelines for banks. It allows them to modify the process according to specific institutional and regional needs.
