How YouTube Shorts Monetization Works ?

Based on ads shown between Shorts videos, YouTube uses a revenue-sharing model .

1. Ad Sales

  • Displayed between Shorts in the Shorts feed, YouTube sells ad slots.

2. Revenue Pooling

  • From Shorts is pooled together all ad revenue.

3. Initial Fund Allocation

    • 34% of the revenue will go into the creator pool.

5. Creator Fund Allocation

  • Based on view share, YouTube distributes the creator pool :

    • You earn 4% of the pool if your Shorts generate 4% of all Shorts views in a cycle.

6. Fund Payment

  • Creators only receive 45% of the revenue attributed to them.

    • Watch time from any of these such as Shorts, ads, private, unlisted, livestream, or deleted videos doesn’t count.

Ad Revenue & Fan Funding Access :

Including, creators on YouTube can now earn through multiple streams, :

  • Ad revenue – from long-form videos and YouTube Shorts.

  • YouTube Premium Subscribers Revenue

  • Fan funding features, such as:

    • Paid memberships

    • Super Chat

    • Super Stickers

    • Super Thanks

 Eligibility Criteria: For the YouTube Partner Program (YPP)

One of the following thresholds must be meet : 

  • In the past 90 days, 1,000 subscribers and 10 million public Shorts views or

  • 4,000 valid public watch hours and 1,000 subscribers on long-form videos in the past 12 months.

Additional Requirements :

  • It must comply with YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
